Please Note: This report does not work well for libraries that define their call numbers using the explicit fields for the prefix and classification number. It also does not work well (or at all) for prefixes that contain a space. Prefix information is determined by looking for a pattern in the call number of a single character immediately followed by the classification number. For example, a call number of JUV DVD j599.77 DIS would result in a dewey class of j500. A version of this report that can handle explicitly defined call numbers can be found here: Turnover Rate by Dewey Class - Alternative Call Number Format.

This report shows basic circulation turnover information based on the Dewey classification number, broken down by groups of 100. Circulation data for the previous year, the current year and for the lifetime of the items that belong to a particular dewey class are reported. It is not currently possible to provide data for more arbitrary time periods. If an item has been withdrawn, that data will NOT be included on the report.

This report could be helpful for spotting large trends and then SimplyReports can be used to hone in on specific items that might need weeded from a section or collection.

Hello! We tried running this report and have some questions about where the data is being pulled from? For ALE, there’s no juvenile, reference, LP or teen data and the number counts are off for each of the item categories. What criteria is being used to pull statistics? Thanks in advance for any additional information.

This issue was caused by differences in call number formats. Alexandria structures theirs the “correct” way by splitting up the prefix and classification number into their own fields as opposed to using either the prefix or classification number to hold the entire call number. This version of the report doesn’t handle the correct format well which caused the strange results. An alternative version that works with call numbers with explicitly defined fields can be found here: Turnover Rate by Dewey Class - Alternative Call Number Format
